I envision a market for some sort of faraday cage in an iPhone carrying case though grounding it maybe a challenge.
After-seller small business opportunity, become a chip remover or disabler perhaps.
1) A Faraday cage doesn't need to be grounded to work.
2) A "Faraday case" is a dumb idea. How would you receive calls?
3) The paranoid posts in the thread are stupid to the point of hilarity. Go live in an igloo somewhere, OK?

Lets put OS X onto the PC platform and get the best of both words.
Because while I admit that the G4 is faster than the P4 on a cycle to cycle comparison, the fact that P4 is pushing 3GHz while we are still at 1.25 is a bit sad.
Plus you are talking about 533mhz busses and RD RAM, many other hardware issues set the PC platfrom above the Mac.
I give apple an "A" for aesthetic design and a "D" for engineering design.
I give Unix and the OS X version of it an A for both design and aesthitcs.
That is my honest view. BTW I am waiting on a PB with a faster FSB and 1.0GHz because I can't bring myself to spend $3500+ on a PC133 machine!

Very nice capture. This reminds me of the lighting style used in Tron and Tron: Legacy. What might be fun is to drastically reduce your aperture / increase your f-number and do a long exposure shot of it so that it is entirely in focus. I would also center it in the frame but that could just be me.

How long can the limited supply situation be true though? I mean we're talking Intel here they must have huge amounts of manufacturing capability being ramped up for these chips. Possibly even being switched away from the production of Yonahs.

Yeah, usually a shortage today means a surplus tomorrow. And I still have yet to see or read any tangible evidence of this shortage. Intel is very forthcoming about such shortages and they have said NOTHING. Every major PC manufacturer, even Apple with their C2D iMac systems, are shipping 2.33GHz C2D chips just as fast as anything else. All the rumors of delays are complete bunk. The people squaking over Dell's web site showing 10 to 17 days to ship a C2D XPS notebook are obviously uneducated in the ways of Dell. It always takes them 7 to 24 days to ship a system.. Always. And adjusting your CPU choice on those systems makes no difference to the ship date.
In other words, there is no shortage and no reason to even consider a shortage as a reason for the delay. Other forces are at work here... Be it Apple pride, stupidity, heat problems or just a genuine deisre to totally mind-****** their customers, Apple knows what they're doing.

Haha, I can already see the next Verizon ad! This is pathetic. Surely Apple has worked out a deal with another carrier for 2010? At least AT&T doesn't completely suck where I work and play. Well, except my mother-in-laws house, which really sucks because what else am I supposed to do there? They don't even have wifi. I should have bought them a router for Christmas.

My main purpose in commenting though is to say congrats to Apple on the management of the event, especially the policing of the queue. It was good to see they dealt with pushing in because, let's face it, they get the same money whether you push or not.
There was one security guy with a shaved head who was excellent although I think he spent most of his time down the other end of the queue. One of the security guys at the front was really nice too but was a bit overwhelmed due to the number of people. There was an Apple guy at the front who was a bit rubbish though and let people in. The queuing was *really* bad at the front. People were pushing in and got away with it at five to six. One guy even barged in at exactly six o'clock.
Apple apparently couldn't get permission to use barriers from the council - probably because they left it so late to announce when Leopard would be in stores. We (everyone at the front) were *extremely* disappointed with the shocking organisation of the queues. The first 20m or so of the queue was about 4 people wide. The inner two had been there since about 4 while the outer two had queue jumped in at great annoyance to everyone else at about ten to six and the staff did nothing. This is the reason why some of you didn't get t-shirts. We tried complaining and arguing but to no avail. :(

My Macpro is shipping tomorrow, I wonder if they will do the update since it's still technically in their hands.
Speaking of which, the build times are much faster! I ordered my Macpro with X1900, 2 gigs of ram, Bluetooth/Airport and 160 drive last Saturday. They placed a hold on my order until Tuesday while verifying my educational status, then sent me a notice the next day (Wednesday) telling me that my order is being processed. My Macpro is scheduled to ship tomorrow and my new 23" ACD is on the truck for delivery today. If everything goes well, I might have a new system for the weekend. That's pretty damn fast for a BTO!

In Australia the iPhone is spruiked by ALL carriers... and is not locked in to a contract... this has helped propel the hand set to a 400+ percent increase in market share and sell over 2 million hand sets...

Running this on my Macbook Alu 2.4Ghz with Nvidia 9400M hooked up to my 46 1080P Sony. The game runs perfectly normal on full 1080P on low settings. I feel I can even push some medium settings on it. My machine gets really hot and the fans are in high gear even when it is not pushing a 1080p second display.

Somehow I was expecting to see a lot more praise and excitement for the 3DS after it launched....
The 3D effect seems to trigger mixed reactions. Other than that...there really doesn't seem to be anything truly exciting about it? I don't see any "wow, those graphics!!" or "holy cow, this thing is fast/powerful" type comments.
The general vibe I am getting from here and other places is more like "pretty neat", rather than "wow, so awesome". :confused:

The 3D is mixed reactions because it's...meh. The consensus is that it's cool for a while, after which your eyes hurt, or the battery dies, or you get fed up with losing the sweet spot all the time. It's got the wow factor of being a new technology, but no real lasting appeal.
I had a 3DS for three days, sent it back. Totally underwhelmed.

I'm starting to quite like the new design. What I really want is dimensions, or a couple of comparison pictures alongside the original console. I'm quite surprised there's no slot-loading DVD drive though.
I think I'll wait until closer to Xmas to see what deals they do with Kinect, and make sure the hardware is more reliable. The Wii is definitely being replaced with an Xbox and Kinect though.

Airtunes has been awful since all the latest updates Apple has made. Fix the issues Apple created before adding more to the mix. Dropouts are Airtunes only quality now. Good idea, but it doesn't work very well at all.

I just stated Android was difficult to use. That's similar to saying I like eating icecream out of the box rather than taking my time putting it in a bowl or a cone and then eating it. See what I'm saying? Now, some people may like the latter way but I much prefer iPhone's navigation, iPhone browser, perfect integration with iTunes, iCal, Mail and others, and the App Store to Android. That said, I do like a lot of the Android features, especially the notification bar that just amazed me.

At that point everything already in the pipeline is wasted. Branch prediction failure is a very very bad thing. Fortunately both AMD and Intel have gotten really good at it as they have ramped up the stages.
